How the Soviet Rigged American Opinion: Bad Publicity is Not Better than Positive Publicity

Moscow hid the match, buried it, in Iceland behind the pleats of the Iron Curtain then carefully selected and approved who would be given access to cover the match. Great pains were taken to stomp out constitutionally protected “freedom of the press”. (For evidence, simply read the past reports, even the major news outlets in Iceland were protesting the barring of reporters/photographers, by Soviet underhanded tactics. Read how Fischer's attorney Paul Marshall reported to the local New York Times, that Fischer's complaint centered on more than simply money, but was infuriated over the Soviet Iceland seeking to bury coverage of the match… a blackout of media coverage.) Soviet sympathizer Chester Fox “bought out” the entire match from Icelandic Chess officials, without consultation of either Fischer or Spassky, to eliminate coverage; censorship so deeply desired by the Soviet Union. Imagine that… Americans kneeling and bowing to the will of his foreign interest Soviet Lords and Masters… good old fashioned Imperialism. Certain Americans and Russian Imperialists were “conspiring” together from the start, from the Fascist Nixon and his Soviet liaisons, down the chain of power.

My Title: “Rehashed Soviet Anti-American Invective to Turn Public Interest Away From Fischer's Defeat of USSR” and Steve Kittey's Description:
“…All that confusion over Fischer's ridiculous refusal to show up on time and the senseless publicity it received turns us off completely”.

QUESTION: And who was responsible for releasing all that negative press into the news media, failing to spell out the background of what Fischer's protests were? His outrage the Soviet was banning coverage? An affront to constitutional freedom of the press while failing to elaborate on the months of finicky, overbearing Soviet and European demands and complaints of organizers who had no intent of proceeding with “fair play” under orthodox rules of engagement. Organizers who refused for months to sort out tournament details pre-match. Refused to even disclose the details of a contract Fischer was given ultimatum to agree to, or forfeit… then of course, the tournament would be a Soviet-Vs-Soviet showdown. Belgrade's illegal demand of 35K USD “guarantee” which Soviet lackeys in media showered with praise in western media… flooding western papers with abusive vitriolic defamation of Fischer, while praising Soviet underhanded tricks. That illegal 35,000 guarantee, the USCF rightly refused to fork up! Australia's legal $225K bid snubbed by Russia, threatening they “would not play” in a conniption fit of poor sportsmanship. And most of all, nobody from the Soviet side seems interested to point out how the USSR hand-selected an Anti-American, Racist Iceland who had a very long history of restricting the entry of blacks, even an all out ban on persons of shades of dark brown, the lack of satellite communications and unconstitutional censorship of news coverage. Insiders reported Soviet schemes to disqualify Fischer and replace with Petrosian, etc. and yet, none of this made it into the syndicated, Soviet-controlled “Western” press?

'til the world understands why Robert J. Fischer criticised the U.S./British and Russian military industry imperial alliance and their own Israeli Apartheid. Sarah Wilkinson explains:

Bobby Fischer, First Amendment, Freedom of Speech
What a sad story Fischer was,” typed a racist, pro-imperialist colonial troll who supports mega-corporation entities over human rights, police state policies & white supremacy.
To which I replied: “Really? I think he [Bob Fischer] stood up to the broken system of corruption and raised awareness! Whether on the Palestinian/Israel-British-U.S. Imperial Apartheid scam, the Bush wars of ‘7 countries in 5 years,’ illegally, unconstitutionally which constituted mass xenocide or his run in with police brutality in Pasadena, California-- right here in the U.S., police run rampant over the Constitution of the U.S., on oath they swore to uphold, but when Americans don't know the law, and the cops either don't know or worse, “don't care” -- then I think that's pretty darn “sad”. I think Mr. Fischer held out and fought the good fight, steadfast til the day he died, and may he Rest In Peace.

After which the troll posted a string of profanities, confirming there was never any genuine sentiment of “compassion” for Mr. Fischer, rather an intent to inflict further defamatory remarks.

This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.

The photograph of Bobby Fischer (above) from the March 02, 1956 The Tampa Times was discovered by Sharon Mooney (Bobby Fischer Newspaper Archive editor) on February 01, 2018 while gathering research materials for this ongoing newspaper archive project. Along with lost games now being translated into Algebraic notation and extractions from over two centuries of newspapers, it is but one of the many lost treasures to be found in the pages of old newspapers since our social media presence was first established November 11, 2017.
